Dear Lufkin High School Alumni Association Members and Friends: We lost our Founder and friend Annon M. Card on October 27, 2011 at the age of 92. His service was on Monday, October 31, 2011. Under his guidance, the LHS Alumni Association has grown for 26 years so that our endowment fund has reached $3,008,032.07. We have given 1,429 scholarships for a total of $1,384,865.00. Had it not been for his foresight, these Lufkin High School graduates might not have been able to attend college, university or a trade school. He was focused on education and believed that all should have a chance to better themselves. Fundraisers promoted by Mr. Card have been: sales of Panther watches and cookbooks, Most Valuable Player Sponsors, engraved brick pavers at the high school, the Chili Supper, and this was the second year for the Annon Card Golf Tournament. It has also been through the help of the donors and you members who have made this association possible. We wanted all of you to know of his passing, and we all were so thankful that we crossed paths with him and the Lufkin High School Alumni Association.
